한국 스타트 업 현장에 대한 간단한 리뷰
네. 전화위복으로 삼을 인생의 쓴 경험들이 많이 있죠.. 고마운 인생!
Well to cut a really long story short … Life really can throw lemons at you when you least expect it and of course, when you are at your most vulnerable. Originally I came to South Korea to teach English, encouraged by my cousin to follow in his footsteps. He taught for 5 years and loved it. So that is how I landed up in South Korea. Unfortunately the teaching thing didn’t hold and I either had to find a way to convince immigration to let me stay or go back home. Homeward bound wasn’t an option for me because I really enjoyed the freedom South Korea offered and that subway is the best public transport I’ve ever experienced – such a treat. Since my original plan was to save up money and apply for the EHF program in New Zealand. It simply couldn’t happen because I was no longer generating an income to make that dream possible. Luckily I heard about the OASIS program, from my favourite you tuber, Megan Bowen, when I was still in my home country. So that is how my startup journey, unwittingly, began in South Korea. I am doing my best to succeed.
정말 긴 이야기를 짧게 줄이려면 … 인생은 당신이 기대를 거의 하지 않거나, 혹은 당연하게도 당신이 가장 취약할 때, 쓴 경험을 가져다 줍니다. 원래 저는 사촌이 자신의 경험을 토대로 한국을 추천하여, 영어를 가르치기 위해 이곳에 왔습니다. 사촌은 5년동안 한국에서 영어를 가르쳤고 그 추억을 소중히 생각합니다. 그것이 제가 한국에 온 이유죠.
불행하게도 영어수업을 더 이상 할 수 없게 되어, 이민국에 내가 머무를 수 있는 명분을 찾아 설득하거나, 본국으로 돌아가야만 했습니다. 저는 한국에서의 자유를 만끽하고 있었고 한국의 지하철은 제가 경험한 것 중 최고의 대중 교통 수단이었기 때문에 본국으로 돌아가고 싶지 않았습니다. 저의 원래 계획은 비용을 절약하고 뉴질랜드의 EHF 프로그램을 신청하는 것이었습니다. 하지만 더 이상 수입이 없어 그 계획은 불가능해졌습니다. 운 좋게도 제가 고향에 있을 때 좋아했던 유튜버 Megan Bowen으로부터 OASIS 프로그램에 대해 듣게 되었고, 그렇게 한국에서 제 스타트업 여정이 시작되었습니다. 이를 성공시키기 위해 최선을 다하고 있습니다.
After I left my teacher’s accommodation. I stayed in a goshiwon (A cheap one room) that was close to Google Campus Seoul in Gangnam (A co-working hotspot where all the entrepreneurs can work). My startup journey started here. It was empowering to sit with others working hard to accomplish the same thing.

Despite life being a bitch. I still managed to meet great people who taught me new things. They helped me to stay strong. 인생이 순탄치만은 않지만, 나는 여전히 새로운 것을 가르쳐 준 훌륭한 사람들을 만났습니다. 그들은 나를 굳건히 붙들어 주었습니다.
Coex mall was near my goshiwon and Seoul Google hub. I always stumbled into events. Everyone wore white at this big party. 코엑스 몰은 제 고시원과 서울 구글 허브 근처에 있었습니다. 항상 다양한 이벤트에 참여했습니다. 이 파티에서 모두가 한 민족이 되었습니다.

Corona Virus Arrived and now a lot of things have slowed down. Really not good for business especially the ones starting out 😦
코로나 바이러스의 유행으로 서비스, 시스템 등 많은 것들이 둔화되었습니다. 스타트업 기업에는 특히 안 좋죠.
Currently applying for a new co-working office. It is really important that I get it because I really need funding and mentorship they offer to get the app, I wrote on my own, working at a satisfactory speed. Unfortunately the app’s platform is too weak. I need developers to help me move it to another faster platform. It is quite competitive to get accepted in these programs. Hold thumbs!
현재 새로운 공동작업 사무실을 알아보고 있습니다. 앱 개발을 위한 자금과 멘토링이 매우 필요하기 때문에 사무실을 확보하는 것이 매우 중요합니다. 혼자서 하고 있는 것 치고는 작업속도가 느리지 않습니다만, 앱의 플랫폼이 취약합니다.
더 빠른 플랫폼으로의 이전을 도와줄 개발자가 필요합니다. 이 프로그램에 참여하는 것에 있어서 경쟁이 매우 치열하지만, 잘 되었으면 좋겠네요!
