Everyday in Korea is a special day for me because there is always something interesting to investigate and add to my memories.

Wednesday New Year’s Day New years day is celebrated.

26 January
Friday – Sunday Lunar New Year’s Day (Seollal) is an important traditional holiday of the year and considered more important than January 1st. Korean families take time off work, play games and feast on traditional foods such as tteokguk(rice cake soup) and mandu guk (dumpling soup).
March 1
Sunday Independence Movement Day. This day commemorates the Declaration of Independence proclaimed on March 1, 1919, while under Japanese colonization.
30 April
Thursday Buddha’s Birthday. Rituals are held in Buddhist temples across the country. Lanterns are hung along streets leading to the temples.
5th May
Tuesday Children’s Day. Parents take their children to parks, zoo, cinemas to celebrate their children.
6th June
Saturday Memorial Day. This day honors the lives of soldiers and civilians who gave their lives for their country. The largest ceremony takes place at the National Cemetry in Seoul.
15th August
Saturday Liberation Day . This day commemorates Japan’s acceptance of the Allies’ terms of surrender in 1945 and the following liberation of Korea.
30 September –
2nd October
Wednesday – Friday Chuseok. A very important traditional holiday. Many families take the time off to celebrate another successful harvest year.
3rd October
Saturday National Foundation Day. This day commemorates the founding of the Korean nation by the legendary god-king Dangun. A simple ceremony is held at several regions throughout Korea
9th October
Friday Hangeul Day is a commemoration held to remember the creation of Hangeul.
25th December
Friday Christmas is observed as a national holiday in Korea as in many other countries. Amazing christmas decorations are celebrated around the country.
